Systems Biology Platform

Systems biology research powered by an integrated high-performance computational platform

Analysing the complex molecular networks that control whole biological processes requires an integrated, highly capable bioinformatics platform.

QFAB has implemented a state-of-the-art, scalable computational environment to analyse, model and infer biomolecular networks. This platform is unique in Australia and consists of high-performance hardware and an integrated suite of commercial software linked to curated datasets.

The platform enables systematic analysis of data from high-throughput biomolecular platforms, in-silico exploration of network models, and experimental validation. This leads to a deeper understanding of the biological mechanisms in health, biotechnology and environmental processes.

Our platform is built around a web service workflow engine that integrates disparate data (top right) and tools (top left). The Health Data Integration software (HDI) developed by the Australian e-Health Research Centre provides linkage to patient records in different hospital data repositories while maintaining secure and private access to an integrated virtual data repository.

QFAB also operates mirrors of the UCSC Genome Browser and ENSEMBL and hosts public and proprietary datasets federated via SRS. With transparent access to data and applications, project-dedicated computation and storage, and the required confidentiality, privacy and security, partners and clients carry out secure in-silico discovery both on-site and remotely.

This platform enables research and analysis on a larger scale than would be possible on the individual data repositories alone.
