CSIRO-NCI Cluster
Solutions through collaboration
The NCI Specialised Facility in Bioinformatics
is a compute cluster and storage environment being established to meet the
needs of the Australian life science research community. Features include:
- Integrated workflow management environment as well as command line access
- Algorithms can be tested in a dedicated area in conjunction with the QFAB team prior to release on the cluster
- Datasets (mirrored using SRS) are made available for comparative analyses
- Standard analysis tools as well as specific tools as requested by users
This high performance cluster, supported by the National Computational Institute, Queensland Cyber Research Foundation, University of Queensland and CSIRO, will have a blend of software applications including open source and proprietary. It incorporates a heterogeneous environment of multiple small nodes as well as larger nodes with 0.5 terabyte RAM for those computationally intensive investigations.
The system is expected to be available in early 2010. Until then, QFAB is supporting a smaller cluster for use specifically by CSIRO. It includes a web interface where users can lodge jobs and monitor their progression in the queue.
