Directions to QFAB

Directions to the Queensland Bioscience Precinct (QBP)

Queensland Facility for Advanced Bioinformatics (QFAB) is located in the Queensland Bioscience Precinct, on the University of Queensland's St Lucia campus in Brisbane.

The QFAB’s physical address is 306 Carmody Road, St Lucia.

Coming to the QBP from Brisbane City

Via taxi - The QBP is located around 7km from Brisbane City. An average taxi fare from the City will cost $15-$20. There is a loading zone off Carmody Road that the taxi can pull into. This is directly outside the QBP foyer. If the taxi drops you off at Chancellor's Place (with all the bus stops) cross the road and walk down the palm-lined walkway to reach the QBP foyer.

Via Citycat - Citycat services travelling upstream from the city terminate at the University of Queensland and takes 20-40 minutes, depending on where you embark the Citycat from. Adult fares are $2.90 for a single trip, with a daily ticket costing $5.80. (Please consult the Translink ferry page for more information). The Citycat stop is on the opposite side of the University. You will need to consult a map of the University to see how to get to QBP from the University’s CityCat stop.

Via bus - Bus 412 departs from Adelaide St (Stop 16) and stops at the University of Queensland bus stop which is opposite QBP.  The journey takes around 20 minutes to reach the University.  Simply cross the road and walk down the palm-lined walkway to reach the QBP foyer.

Alternatively, you can catch Bus 109, which takes around 15 minutes to reach the University. It will drop you at the UQ Lakes stop, which is a five-minute walk from the QBP. Refer to the map on the right to see where the UQ Lakes stop is in comparison to the IMB. For both routes, an adult fare will be $2.90 for a single trip, and $5.80 for a daily ticket. See the Translink bus page for more information.

Driving - From the City, take the Coronation Drive exit and keep driving straight on Coronation Drive until you reach Sir Fred Schonell Drive on the left. There will be signs posted indicating that this is the road to take for the University of Queensland. Turn left onto Sir Fred Schonell Drive and continue until you reach the roundabout at the entrance to the University. Turn right onto Coldridge Street and follow it until the end of the street, where you will need to turn left on to Carmody Road. QBP is a few hundred metres along Carmody Road. For a map of these directions, please click here.

QBP has five-minute parking bays directly outside Reception where you can park while you collect your parking pass from Reception. Please note, if you have not arranged a parking pass in advance, you will need to park elsewhere on the University of Queensland campus. If this is the case, please follow the above driving directions until you reach the roundabout at the entrance to the university. Go straight through and continue until you reach the second roundabout. Turn right and follow the road that leads back towards the Multi-storey car park. You can park here for a fee of $5 per stay. For information on other parking options at UQ, please see the university's Traffic and Parking page.

Coming to the QBP from Brisbane Airport

Via taxi - QBP is approximately 23km from Brisbane Airport. An average taxi fare from the airport will cost $45-$50. There is a loading zone off Carmody Road, directly outside the QBP foyer that the taxi can pull into. Should the taxi drop you off at the taxi rank in Chancellor's Place, where all the bus stops are located, simply cross the road and walk down the palm-lined walkway to reach the QBP foyer.

Via train - The Airtrain operates from both Brisbane Airport’s domestic and international terminals. The Airtrain terminates at the Gold Coast, but stops at downtown Brisbane stations.

If you are travelling to QBP, you can catch the Airtrain into the city to Central Station, which is a 20 minute journey costing $13.50.  Then follow the directions above for getting from the city to QBP.

Alternatively, you can stop at Central Station and change to a train on the Ipswich line, disembarking at the Toowong Station. You would then catch the 412 bus to the University of Queensland. The Toowong bus stop is opposite the train station on Coronation Drive and can be accessed via a walkway leading directly from the station over Coronation Drive. Once you reach the University of Queensland, cross the road from the University bus stop at Chancellor Place and walk down the palm-lined walkway to reach the QBP foyer. This journey, in total from the airport, would take around 40 minutes and cost around $20.

Driving - Follow Airport Drive, then exit left, just before the large roundabout with the traffic lights, onto the Gateway Motorway. Leave the motorway at the City exit, which is the next exit. Drive down this street until you reach the intersection, and turn left onto Kingsford Smith Drive. Follow Kingsford Smith Drive until it splits. The left lanes will take you into the Valley, while the right lanes will take you onto the Inner City Bypass. Take the right lanes and follow the Inner City Bypass. It will turn into Hale Street. Keep following until you reach its end at the river. Do not take the Go Between Bridge, instead, turn right onto Coronation Drive and keep driving straight until you reach Sir Fred Schonell Drive on the left. There will be signs posted indicating that this is the road to take for the University of Queensland. Turn left on to Fred Schonell Drive and follow it until you reach the roundabout at the entrance to the University. Turn right onto Coleridge Street, follow it until the end and then turn left onto Carmody Road. QBP is a few hundred metres down the road.
